CATHEDRAL in GRANADA
Last updated 15-August-2004

According to the Lonely Planet Guide, construction of the cathedral began in 1521 and lasted until the 18th century. It is located next to the "Capilla Real" (the Royal Chapel), which was commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs (Isabella and Ferdinand) to be their own mausoleum (crypt). However the Capilla Real wasn't completed until 1521, so their remains were stored until the completion in the Alhambra's Convento de San Francisco.

I thought the Cathedral was worth seeing, but the Capilla Real did not offer much that was fascinating.

The city of Granada is tightly constructed around the Cathedral, so it is very difficult to take an image of the cathedral without a wide angle lens. I tried taking multiple images, and stitching the images together with panoramic software.

At night time, the exterior of the cathedral is well lit, making for an interesting view.

As in most Spanish sites, tripods were not allowed in the interior of the Cathedral.

I still have not mastered Photoshop's capabilities to remove distortion (such as seen in this panoramic image):
