Hotels
(last updated 15-August-2004)

Thanks to advice from "waw" in recommending http://www.hrs.de, for most of our hotels we booked through the http://www.hrs.de site. We selected this site because it offered us the capability to cancel reservations at 6:00pm (with no deposit) on the same day as checkin. This provided us more flexibility in our travel plans. In contrast, most other web sites required one to two days notice of cancellation, with a one day non-refundable deposit required.

Puerto Banus Hotel - Malaga
This hotel was in a good location to access the Puerto Banus shopping, restaurants, and night life. Having said that, Puetro Banus is so expensive, I would not recommend anyone eat at the restaurants, nor drink at the bars. We drove our car to Marbella for supper, as Puerto Banus was much too expensive.

Here is a view from the room (none of the Hotel's on our Spanish trip had great views from the room. This was probably the best view from all of the Hotels where we stayed):

Ronda Hotel Map

This is a family owned hotel, and without doubt the staff were the most friendly of any we encountered during our stay. The Hotel has recently been refurbished, and while they are listed in the Lonely Planet Guide, they charge more than their Lonely Planet Guide listing states (possibly due to the recent refurbishment). The Hotel location is excellent, close to parking, restaurants, shopping, night life, and tourist sites of interest.

The rooms have AC, Heater, telephone, satellite TV, hair dryer, and safe deposit box. This hotel purports to be a 4 star, but in my opinion it is closer to being a 3-star hotel than a 4-star. While its restaurant and bar are very nice looking, the room is not up to 4-star standards.

The Hotel location was not all that great. We had to take a taxi to the restaurants, tourist sites, and night life, as to walk from the Hotel was too far. Contrast this to every other hotel we stayed in during our trip (where we never had to take a taxi).
Here are some views of our room in Emperador Trajoano:

The bed is deceptive, as it is actually two single beds pushed together. Both beds are on wheels, so it is very easy for the two beds to move apart. When we booked the hotels (asking for one large double bed), we were advised that was not available, so we were not surprised by the bedding arrangement that we ended up with.

According to their brochure, their high season room rates, for a double room such as we had, are normally 80 to 90 euro/night, not including breakfast. Typical extra costs are 5 Eros for buffet breakfast, and 1.50 Eros for a safe box. They are also associated (same ownership?) with the three star Plaza Cavana Hotel (next door, where breakfast is served).

We did have trouble finding the hotel, as the sign was obscured by a tree:

The bed was a true king sized bed. The mirrors on the closet of our room in Puerta del Mar Hotel reminded me of the Grand President in Bangkok.

In my assessment, Puetra del Mar Hotel is close to being a 3 star hotel, but it lacks some of the facilities that a 3 star hotel would normally have. The Hotel location is very good, being close to the water right off of a main street where many of the restaurants and bars are located. Some views of the Hotel's facilities:

Torremolinos
(close to Malaga)
Adriano Hotel Torremolinos

29620 Torremolinos - Malaga
Tel: +34 952 050 838
Cost: 67 euro/night + 7% vat
Parking: 6 euro/night + 7% vat

This Hotel claims to be a three star, but in my opinion it is closer to a poor two star hotel. Had I stayed two nights (instead of one night), I would have looked for a different hotel. This was the only hotel that that I felt uncomfortable in.

The Hotel is location is good, in downtown Torremolinos, close to the shopping and to many of the Torremolinos restaurants and bars. Some views of our room in Adriano Hotel:
